Ultraglycerol for adult and child over 12 years:
Each suppository 4 g contains: glycerine 70% w/w.
Ultraglycerol for child 1–12 years:
Each suppository 2 g contains: glycerine 70% w/w.
Ultraglycerol for infant under 1 year:
Each suppository 1g contains: glycerine 70% w/w. |
| Pharmacodynamics properties |
| Glycerol classified as laxative and administered rectally suppositories to promote faecal evacuation, it attracts water into stools and soften inspissated faecal mass (it usually acts within 15-30 minutes) possibly due to the hygroscopie of osmotic effects of glycerol drowing water into the faecal promoting rectal contraction glycerol may be additionally or alternatively through its local irritant effect it may be also have lubrication and faecal softening. |
| Therapeutic indications |
| Glycerol is used in treatment of constipation and for bowel evacuation before investigational procedures such as endoscopy of radiological or before surgery, postpartum care and in preparation for natural delivery. |
| Side effect |
| Skin pruritus around anal area, and intestinal cramps. |
| Contraindication |
| Acute surgical abdominal, appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, rectal bleeding and acute gastroenteritis. |
| Warnings and precautions |
| Use this product may interfere with glucose control in diabetic patients. Best avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy. |
| Drug interactions |
It should be given cautiously with:
1. Diuretics , 2. Potassium sparing medicines , 3. Mineral oil |
| DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION |
Adults: 1-2 suppositories adult size as needed.
Children: 1 suppository pediatric size as needed.
NOTE: suppository moistened with water to be inserted into rectum as required. Patients should be retaining suppository into rectum as long as possible before excretion. |
